IBM iX develops digital service platform for Asklepios

IBM iX has acquired Asklepios, the second-largest private hospital operator in Ger-many, as a long-term customer, with a contract to design and develop a new digital service platform that offers an attractive user experience for customers and em-ployees alike.

Over the course of a multi-stage selection process, Asklepios – a leading German healthcare group with approximately 170 facilities and 69,000 employees – opted to entrust IBM iX with its website relaunch. IBM iX has enjoyed success as an experience design and customer transformation partner within IBM Consulting while working with various healthcare service providers since 2014. Over the next year and a half, it will be responsible for designing, implementing and hosting a digital service platform for the group, whose headquarters is in Hamburg.

A forward-looking digital service portfolio

Offering services ranging from screenings, prevention and medical care to education and training opportunities for professionals, Asklepios’s facilities can be found in 14 German states, including hospitals, specialist clinics, rehabilitation centres and medical care hubs. The group’s aim is to further bolster its credentials as a pioneering company for digital healthcare services.

“We are harnessing the potential offered by digitalisation to help our employees and further increase the quality of healthcare. Our aim is to become a fully digital healthcare group by 2024. This calls for a forward-looking digital service platform that meets the needs of our users while being streamlined and appealing when it comes to providing our full range of services. IBM iX is the perfect partner for this process due to its experience in this field,” states Rune Hoffman, Head of Corporate Communication at Asklepios.

The goal of the new digital service platform is to provide access to current and future digital services such as physician finder tools, office hours, course booking options and healthcare magazines, thereby boosting the group’s interaction with patients and partners and ensuring the online infrastructure is ready to meet various strategic objectives. There are also plans to integrate new technologies such as artificial intelligence and telematics infrastructure.

An attractive user experience

IBM iX is the expert for digitalisation projects in the field of healthcare, working with customers such as BARMER, PKV and the German Federal Centre for Health Education and implementing projects including the German electronic health record (eGA)/electronic patient file (ePA) and the IBM healthcare platform. The digital agency is also bringing its wide-ranging expertise in experience-led design (UX/UI) to bear on the relaunch of the entire Asklepios website, with a view to improving the website’s user experience in the long term. This consists of integrating a regional content structure to increase lead generation, improving the user experience for editors at Asklepios and implementing the Magnolia DXP Visual Headless Content Hub, which offers intuitive navigation options in the content management system, enables content to be found more easily, and streamlines workflows.

A proven partnership

IBM iX and Asklepios have been working together with success for the past nine years, with the former responsible for the group’s old website relaunch back in 2014.

“We are delighted to accompany Asklepios on its journey into a digital future for patient well-being and health. This is a chance to drive the digital transformation in healthcare forward,” states Oliver Keigel, Client Service Director at IBM iX and manager of the Asklepios account. Keigel has overseen numerous other platform projects, including the Baloise relaunch and the digital therapy guide TheraKey on behalf of Berlin-Chemie.
