Especially in international organizations, manual workflows, fragmented systems and language barriers lead to long processing times and high ticket volumes. Basic chatbots are a thing of the past

Developed by IBM as an in-house solution, AskHR was designed to fundamentally simplify HR processes. The idea: an AI agent – not just a chatbot – that supports employees with everyday tasks such as address changes, leave notifications, or questions about parental leave, payroll, and benefits – quickly, intuitively, and around the clock. The goal was to create a central access point where information is easy to find, processes run automatically, and HR systems like SAP or Workday are seamlessly integrated.

 

The foundation for a scalable “ask me anything” platform

AskHR was implemented at IBM as “Client Zero” in multiple phases: following an AI readiness check and a bootcamp for the HR organization, a 6–12-week experience design phase helped shape a clear generative AI value case. Initial use cases were deployed in a pilot country, followed by a company-wide rollout reaching all management levels, including the executive board. The transformation was supported by change management, new HR roles, and targeted skill trainings.

The result: In its first year alone, over 800,000 manager transactions were automated, 94% of all inquiries were
resolved instantly, and a 75% increase in productivity was achieved – with a 96% adoption rate among management. Thanks to its direct integration with HR backend systems, AskHR not only provides real-time answers but also handles complex processes such as leave requests, payroll, and maternity notifications. AskHR now serves as the foundation for a scalable, organization-wide “ask me anything” platform.
